Game Watch Milwaukee Area: The 140th Yale-Harvard Football Game
140th Yale-Harvard Watch Party
Inaugural “Professor in a Pub” Event
Featuring:
Kathryn Lofton, Lex Hixon Professor of Religious Studies and American Studies, Professor of History and Divinity; FAS Dean of Humanities, Yale University
Please help us welcome back to Wisconsin a Shorewood High School graduate and current Dean of Humanities at Yale University. Enjoy social time at The Brewery, followed by a scintillating talk from Professor Lofton on “How to Build an American Religion.”
“Religion” is a word to describe how people organize themselves to worship something. In the rich history of religion in the United States, there have been a wide array of instances where social movements have altered how groups of people have structured their relationship to the world. In this talk based on a Yale lecture course, Katie Lofton, Dean of Humanities at Yale’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences, will explore America’s religious history to provide “recommendations” on how one might launch a successful movement of this type.

"Bright College Years" Virtual Book Talk
Please join an upcoming zoom book talk on Andrew Pessin’s new novel about Yale, Bright College Years! Aspirationally the quintessential campus novel, the quintessential Yale novel—set in 1980s Yale but aiming to capture the timeless Yale experience—by turns smart, funny, and heart-wrenching (so says the blurb), Bright College Years tracks an ensemble cast as they navigate the shortest, gladdest, most complex years of life—and then the rest of it. Coming of age, as the awesome tag line has it, doesn’t only happen to the young.
For the many who’ve read the book, this will be a chance to discuss it. For those who haven’t but planned to, now’s a good time to acquire a copy! For those on the fence, come find out more. For the skeptics, cynics, nay-sayers, and nemeses? Come and heckle!
Thursday May 2, 7:30 PM Eastern
Register here: http://yari.club/bright-college-years-book-talk/
The talk is sponsored by the Yale Association of Rhode Island.
For more information about the book and loads of endorsements (including by many Yalies), please visit https://andrewpessin.com/bright-college-years/. (Signed copies are available directly from the author if interested.)

FEB CLUB EMERITUS MILWAUKEE 2023
MKE Feb Club 2023 on Feb 17!
Feb Club started as a tradition in the late 1970's on the Yale Campus as a way for the students to socialize during the dreary month of February. As you may recall, February in New Haven means mostly grey skies, cold, and drizzle for weeks at a time. To fight back against the winter doldrums, the progenitors of Feb Club planned parties all over campus every night of the month for people to meet up. In the late 2000's, Yale saw this as an opportunity and asked local alumni groups to set up "Feb Club Emeritus" events for alumni during the month of February as simple social mixers without any agenda - just a chance to hang out with other Yale alumni. More information on the background and history of Feb Club and Feb Club Emeritus can be found HERE.
The YAW has hosted Feb Club Emeritus events every year since 2009 (except 2021) and they have always been fun! We get to enjoy hanging out with a great mix of older and younger alumni and graduates from all Yale schools. Several years ago we transitioned away from expensive events in hotels or restaurants and have gone with a more casual cocktail-party approach for our YAW event with great success.
My amazing wife Cristin and I are glad to invite you all over again to our home for this year's event - YAW Feb Club Emeritus 2023 will be Friday, February 17 once again at our home in Wauwatosa, WI - 6509 W Washington Blvd from 7-10pm. It's a simple cocktail party with other Yale alums and their invited guests. No agenda, no fundraising - just a chance to meet up and maybe meet some new Yalies!
Please RSVP if you plan to attend and find more event details HERE.

Summer Service Event Opportunity This Saturday 8/20/22 at 8am!
Wisconsin Yalies!!! Summer Service Event Opportunity This Saturday 8/20/22 at 8am!
Just a quick reminder of a service activity opporunity for this Saturday 8/20 at 8am at Globall Giving. Please join us at the headquarters where our team effort will be to pull out all baseball inventory, package, and send to Turn Two For Youth (http://www.turn2foryouth.com/) as they prepare for international distribution.
Azita Hamedani '95, one of our YAW board members, and her family have become very involved with this charity over the last several years. Here's a summary of what Turn Two For Youth is about, taken from their website:
Turn Two for Youth is a charitable organization formed to collect baseball equipment and distribute it to active children who need a little help. It all started as a grassroots effort when two good friends and their families were vacationing in the Turk Islands and Caicos. Billy Owens and Eric Smith were visiting with a youth baseball coach there and saw that his players didn’t have the equipment they needed to play ball. They were sharing torn-up gloves and making due with makeshift equipment. This disheartened the two men and they decided to do something about it. Every kid should have their own glove.
When Billy and Eric returned home, they organized a grassroots collection drive in their hometown of Charlotte, NC where baseball families supported the vision with great enthusiasm. Bats, gloves, uniforms, catcher’s equipment, batting tees and an assortment of other baseball necessities were collected at local leagues and schools. Most families were all too happy to clean out their closets. Once the gear was ready to go, Billy and Eric delivered on a promise they made to that coach and shipped a full seaboard container to the Turk Islands.
That grassroots campaign became the model for a more formal non-profit organization. Turn Two for Youth now collects gear throughout the United States from teams, coaches, players and families, all who want to give back to the game they love. The equipment is cleaned, refurbished and then shipped to credible organizations for distribution. Turn Two for Youth has established a network of wonderful partners such as Major League Baseball, the American Baseball Coaches Association, Miracle League, various ministries and independent coaches.
Turn Two for Youth is the official charity of the American Baseball Coaches Association and a proud supplier to Miracle League.
Please let Azita Hamedani know via email or text (azita1923@gmail.com or 608-695-7378) if you plan to attend this Saturday.
Event Location:
