Featuring:
Kathryn Lofton, Lex Hixon Professor of Religious Studies and American Studies, Professor of History and Divinity; FAS Dean of Humanities, Yale University
Please help us welcome back to Wisconsin a Shorewood High School graduate and current Dean of Humanities at Yale University. Enjoy social time at The Brewery, followed by a scintillating talk from Professor Lofton on “How to Build an American Religion.”
“Religion” is a word to describe how people organize themselves to worship something. In the rich history of religion in the United States, there have been a wide array of instances where social movements have altered how groups of people have structured their relationship to the world. In this talk based on a Yale lecture course, Katie Lofton, Dean of Humanities at Yale’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences, will explore America’s religious history to provide “recommendations” on how one might launch a successful movement of this type.
